It’s a small world indeed. So small that last March I happened to be teaching the father of one of the members of Masclans. One day, during the break, I randomly said that I had recently started collaborating with two online music mags, so he said, ‘Hey, you know what?! My son plays in a band; they’re actually good’. So I offered to listen to them and, why not, write something about them.
This idea materialized last June when Masclans played at Almo2Bar supporting Tulsa. As usual, I wrote the concert review. It was overall a very nice evening that I got the chance to spend along with both the proudest of papas and with Miquel Pulido (aka MikiWho), an outstanding student of mine with whom I’ve shared more than one and than two music moments in life and who, this time, was in charge of taking pics of the gig too.
Prior to that eve, though, I had got in touch with Masclans’ manager, who was very kind all the way through and suggested interviewing both Masclans and Tulsa on the day of the gig. Undoubtedly, I obliged. So you could see me preparing yet two more interviews, after listening to all the two acts’ albums and reading some of the material on the available on the net. Unfortunately, we couldn’t carry out the interview in person on the day of the concert, as there were last minute changes in the bands’ schedule. Instead, their manager suggested that I send it via e-mail. What a great surprise to see an e-mail in my inbox with the answers to my Masclans interview only two days after the concert! You can read the interview, which was chosen as ‘highlight’, here.
On the day of the gig I also got the chance to chat briefly with Miren Iza aka Tulsa, whose music I happened to love the minute I listened to it for the first time. Besides being greatly surprised by her beauty in person – some pics don’t do her justice, nope -, she was also very kind to let me take a pic of her set list and provided me with her e-mail so I could send her the interview questions too. I was kinda afraid to send those to her, as I had gone personally involved in some because her lyrics revolve around issues of the mind. Miquel also collaborated with a couple of questions. We haven’t received an answer yet. Oh well.
All in all, another adventure in which beautiful people from different places took part and which contributed to adding one more page to MMar’s RAMM.
